Let us introduce ourselves
The Sathya Sai Baba Center of Bandar Klang is an inter-faith non-profit NGO dedicated towards the promotion of human values and selfless service to the poor, sick and needy for nation-building. Our center is part of the Sathya Sai International Organisation Malaysia(SSIO-M) formerly known as Sathya Sai Baba Central Council of Malaysia.
HIstory of SSBC Bandar Klang
The Sathya Sai Baba Center of Bandar Klang was inaugurated on 20th April 1992 as a Bhajan Unit then known as SSBU Bandar Klang. The first bhajan started in Mr. & Mrs. Balasingam’s residence, a single storey bungalow house at Taman Melawis, Klang, Selangor. In early 1992, temple talks on Hinduism were given by Bro. Gunasegaran (who was our first chairman) at Sri Murugan Temple in Teluk Pulai, Klang on Fridays. Later with the help of 4 other Sai brothers, he started a Bhajan Unit at Mr. & Mrs. Balasingam’s house. The temple talks attracted many nearby residences and they were invited for the bhajans. Later the bhajans attracted more devotees who helped the Center to grow further. On 27th August 1994, we received our Center status (upgraded from Bhajan Unit) officially from Sathya Sai Central Council of Malaysia and known as Sathya Sai Baba Center Bandar Klang (SSBCBK). This premise was used for 10 years as our Center where all 5 wings and their related activities started. All meetings, AGMs, celebrations and activities were held here. Both Mr. & Mrs. Balasingam who participated in all our activities had a big heart to share their home, where they were living in, to be used as our Center.
We moved to a new and current premise in Taman Saujana Jati in Klang on 1st January 2003 and in November 2008, we purchased the immediate next shop lot for additional space and expanded Balvikas classes and added more needy activities. Apart from weekly Bhajans, we conduct regular service program such as the visit to Hospital (Tengku Ampuan Rahimah), Sai Clinic, visit to old folks’ home, recycling effort with the surrounding communities, weekly human values classes (Balvikas and EHV) in addition to other character-building activities. We also promote unity in diversity through community activity such as “Walk for Values” which was held in 2011, in cooperation with Majlis Perbandaran Klang and Giant, Bukit Tinggi, Klang with the support from then the Member of Parliament, Mr.Charles Santiago.
Past & Present Chariman
How SSBCBK Progressed
Bro. Gunasegaran who initiated the Centre in 1992 was the first chairman. He imbibed discipline as our first step. Later he set up the committee and activated all 5 wings. With the help of the committee and devotees the 5 wings grew further to which the first public symposium in 1994 was held at Dewan Hamzah. He was succeeded by Bro. Tharumanathan.
Bro. Tharumanathan as our 2nd chairman helped the 5 wings to reach greater heights. Youth camps and medical camps were initiated. EHV in schools were established and expanded. Yearly public programs like Gurupurnima were planned and executed. Lots of talents and ideas were developed including Bhajan wing and its guidelines.
Both the above chairmen were the pillars for what the Centre is today with discipline and expansion. The rest of the chairmen maintained and grew the wings and their activities to meet the current era and its challenges.
How it all came to be…
The Sathya Sai International Organization (SSIO) is a free, non-denominational voluntary organization. Its members come from all faiths and share a common goal: to reach the ultimate goal of realization of their innate divinity by practicing the teachings of love and service taught by their spiritual teacher, Sathya Sai Baba.
At the core of the organization is the individual who believes in the assumption of personal responsibility for ethical transformation through selfless love and service. The membership is free and open to all. Typically, individual seekers of love and peace, drawn by the experiences of friends and family members, come to their local or regional Sathya Sai centers for participation in weekly group spiritual singing together with other devotional and spiritual activities, and also to volunteer in regular service activities such as giving food to the needy, organizing medical camps and medical services, and other forms of civic volunteerism.
The premise of Sathya Sai Centers is that they provide a space for a spiritual meeting of like-minded individuals, a communion of good-desiring people of all faiths. In such a space, sincere seekers, students of spirituality, and service-minded volunteers gather for spiritual singing, devotional spiritual activities and to study the teachings of Sathya Sai Baba. The goal of participation is ultimately the transformation of self and society into a place of selfless love, a place where the recognition of the divinity innate in humanity becomes possible. The living ideal of the SSIO is the cultivation of oneness with others, family, community, nation, and the world.
